The Ciência Viva Journeys have arrived in Campo Maior… where everything blooms!

The Centro de Ciência do Café - Centro Ciência Viva is the star attraction of the Campo Maior Journey, tracing the history of the world’s second most consumed beverage – coffee - from the plant to the cup. Through interactive exhibits and a vast collection of artifacts related to coffee production, visitors learn all about the fascinating facts associated with the world’s two best-known coffee species - Arabica and Robusta.

Heading toward the town centre, the walls of Campo Maior Castle bear witness to the constant conflicts between Portugal and Spain, which gave rise to a defensive system in which fortifications were built on both sides of the border, mirroring one another. At Largo do Barata, more specifically at the Festas do Povo Interpretation Centre - Casa das Flores -we step into one of Portugal’s largest folk culture events: the Festas do Povo. Let your imagination run wild and learn how to create colorful paper flowers like those that adorn dozens of streets in Campo Maior during the festivities.

And upon arriving at the small but special village of Ouguela - now home to about 50 people - we find the starting point for nature trails teeming with biodiversity.
